Your Fay profile photo is often the first thing potential patients see — so make that first impression count! The good news? You don’t need a professional photographer to capture a great shot! With a little creativity, good lighting, and a genuine smile, you can capture a fantastic photo from the comfort of your own home. Read on for tips and tricks about how to take a professional headshot at home.

Taking the photo

Have a friend take your photo or use your phone's self-timer! Plan to take at least 20 images with varied smiles and expressions so you have a lot to choose from.

Cell phone settings

If you have a friend taking your photo, ask them to use portrait mode! This will blur the background to make you the clear focus and give your photo a polished, professional look. Portrait mode also enhances the overall photo quality, ensuring you get a sharp and well-lit image perfect for your headshot.

Background

Choose a simple, uncluttered background to keep the focus on you. A solid-colored wall works perfectly to give your headshot a clean and professional feel. If you're outside, look for a spot with minimal distractions, like a plain fence or a natural backdrop, to keep the attention on your face.

Lighting

Good lighting is key to a great headshot! Stand in a shaded area to avoid shadows, and make sure your face is pointed toward a light source. Natural light from a nearby window or a ring light are perfect!

Outfit

Consider wearing something professional but still comfortable, and avoid any overly bright or distracting patterns and colors!
