Engineering
I grew up in the great state of Illinois, about 30 minutes South of Springfield in a town of 3000 people surrounded by a sea of corn. I got into music and live audio production in my teens and fell in love with technology. I moved to Nashville, TN for a bit, went to college there, and tried to live the rockstar lifestyle only to figure out being on the road all the time sucks, and I like technology much more than I like loud, crowded bars haha. I picked up programming in college, and decided to be a mobile dev so that I could be gainfully employed. Turns out I love it! I’ve been doing Android and Kotlin dev ever since and haven’t looked back! I’m back in Illinois, near STL these days, and have been working remote for companies out of the Bay Area and NYC for long before it became cool in 2020.
Over my career I’ve done a bit of everything in the Android space, but in particular I really have enjoyed audio streaming, automotive app development, and working on Android apps running in places that you would expect. Recently, I’ve caught the bug for building AI tooling, and when I’m not “working” working you can find me hacking on my toy coding agent, building MCP servers to tackle problems I’ve faced, complaining in AI tool forums that their product isn’t yet meeting my needs fully, and trying to think of new and interesting ways to leverage to tools to blow my own mind.
Outside of work and free time software dev, you will find me hanging out with my 5 year old daughter (we are working on learning to ride a bike), working on Midcentury house (that seems to always be falling apart), foraging for native fruits and mushrooms in the woods behind my house, trying out some new recipe, and trying to sporadically complete a video game or two when I actually have time. I also love the outdoors (especially paddle sports) and traveling, though I don’t get to do as much of that as I would like anymore.
