Should you wish to proceed with applying for a Washington State Certified Dietitian (CD) credential, here are a few pointers that might be helpful
Note: Washington certifies Certified Dietitians (CD), not “Licensed Dietitians (LD).” The CD credential requires CDR registration plus state certification
Documents you will need
Items that must be uploaded to your application
- Signed copy of your current CDR registration card (RD/RDN), showing active registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Proof of completion of required education and supervised practice
- Documentation of completion of at least 4 hours of HIV/AIDS training that meets Washington’s requirement for dietitians
Items that may need to be sent separately (if applicable)
- License verification(s) from other states, if applicable
- Verifications must be sent directly from the other state licensing authority to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH); verification form and instructions available in the portal as part of the application
- Official Transcripts:
- Official transcripts showing completion of at least a bachelor’s degree or higher with required dietetics coursework must be sent directly from your college/university to DOH at P.O. Box 1099, Olympia, WA 98507-1099
Complete the online application
- Go to the **Secure Access Washington (SAW) website**
- Select "Sign up." If you already have a SAW account, sign in with your user ID and password you previously created
- Log in to your SAW account using your SAW user ID and password you previously created
- Select the “Add a New Service” link and select “Department of Health”
- Scroll to “Health Professional and Facility Licensing (HELMS)”, select “Apply”, and complete the information on the "Locate Your Account" page
- On the HELMS homepage, select “Start Application” and choose Certified Dietitian (CD) as the credential type
- Complete the application with your personal, education, and professional information.
- Upload required documentation (e.g., CDR license)
- Submit payment of the required $81 application fee (refer to the official fee schedule for most up to date information)
