Background

Hello!

I’m Elijah, but I mostly go by Eli. Historically a city-slicker, I’ve spent the past decade+ in Shelburne Falls, MA, a cute little touristy village in the foothills of the Berkshires. My wife (Emily) and I have two wonderful elementary-school-aged children 👶, a few chickens 🐔 and a tiny Papillon (🦋🐕) named Morgan (her full name is Morgana le Fay, my wife found her via a Camelot-themed breeder). Life is never dull with this crew!

As a software engineer, I studied Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, where I also minored in Jazz Performance (on the saxophone 🎷). After university I went and worked in online dating 💋 for a while before venturing off to found my own company in the criminal justice space ⚖️. To me, the consistent theme has been using my technology skills to build products which help people.

Outside of work I can be found making music (either on the sax or with my voice), playing with the kids, watching obscure (or not so obscure) film/tv, playing puzzle games (currently finishing up Baba is You with a friend), or geeking out studying up on Linguistics (preferably the Historical variety), Zoology (preferably the marine kind: ❤️ 🐙 🦑 🦈), or whatever other thing seems like it needs to be learned.

My favorite meals

Chinese: Nearly anything with Sichuan Peppers in it!
Indian: Give me all of it. The saag, curry, masalas, samosas. The chicken 65. All of it! Emily and I had Indian food at our wedding!
Mexican: Tacos are, obviously, wonderful. But I think the real magic is in the enchiladas with mole.
American/Italian: We eat a lot of noodles and pasta sauce. It’s a clear winner just in terms of volume. It may not be as exotic as the others, but sometimes nothing beats a great bowl of pasta!

What I’ve been learning about lately

I do a fair bit of self-hosting with my meager homelab. I’m an advocate for personal data sovereignty and I enjoy spending my time building systems which allow me to be in control of my own data.
